Frequently asked questions

Which games and organizations is OSM designed for?

OSM Core is a modular organization platform for teams, communities and organizations, and it is tied to no particular game. What a single game calls for comes through optional plugins; the first plugin supports Star Citizen.

What is OSM for, compared to Discord?

OSM does not replace Discord. Discord is for live communication; OSM keeps structured knowledge for the long term: encrypted files with clearance levels, orders and bookkeeping. The two work together: The seal is passed around through Discord, and the first joining uses the sign-in with Discord. Discord does not see the office's content unless a member shares it there themselves. Ways without Discord are planned.

Does OSM monitor or log what I type?

Through Raw Input, Windows gives the app a copy of the keyboard, and of the mouse when a side button is bound. OSM reacts only to the bound keys. Nothing is swallowed, and what you type is neither stored nor sent; each key reaches the game unchanged.

Can using OSM put my game account at risk?

OSM does not interfere with the game's memory, processes or files, and does nothing meant to bypass or influence anti-cheat mechanisms. The design is strictly passive. There is no express approval from Cloud Imperium Games; details under Security.

Does using OSM cost anything?

No, OSM is free. If you want to support the project, you will find the ways under Support.

Which operating systems is OSM available for?

The desktop app runs on Windows. An organization's optional service is to be available for Docker, Linux and Windows.

Is running your own server required?

No. Without your own server OSM runs encrypted over public relays. Your own service brings your own relay and a voice server the app is not yet connected to; passing on game data through it is in progress.

Who has access to the organization's internal data?

Only members with the right clearance. Relays, server operators and we as developers never see file contents; the modules of your own service read only what their task needs.

What happens when a member leaves the organization?

The leadership revokes the digital badge. Once the keys are renewed, the former member can no longer read new content, and what they write afterwards no longer counts.

When will the first version be released for download?

As soon as it is finished and checked, under Downloads. We deliberately give no fixed dates.

Which features are currently in development?

Among others encrypted channels, the connection of voice and public installation packages. The full overview is under Status.
